Benin has released a collector
coin titled Cannabis as part of the Famous Plants of the World series.
Weighing 27 grams and equivalent to 100 francs, the copper-nickel
silver-plated coin with a bright-green cannabis leaf on the reverse, is
bound to stun collectors. It has the aroma of marijuana that comes from a
synthetic additive. Cannabis is on the UN list of herbs containing
narcotic substances and therefore its cultivation is strictly
controlled. In the past, it was used as food oil and also to make paper,
clothing, footwear, ropes and threads.
